Experience
In addition to my experience teaching college-level writing and literature, I have worked for ten years tutoring students in a wide variety of subjects, ranging from elementary-level study skills, to middle and high school language arts, to standardized test preparation, to college-level writing. My work with standardized test prep has been especially extensive. I also assist students who become overwhelmed with their workloads and need to develop skills in organization and focus in order to strengthen their academic performance. I am available to work with students in the following areas: - standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, ISEE, and SSAT verbal sections) - writing skills at all levels, elementary through college - other facets of language arts (reading comprehension, etc.) - college admissions essays and applications - general study and organizational skills When tutoring, I personalize my approach for each student: I guide some students step-by-step through each assignment, and I give others homework (such as practice essays or lists of vocabulary words) which we then utilize at our meetings. I believe that customizing my teaching methods in this way proves effective both in teaching the given material and in guiding students to develop, according to their own individual styles of study and comprehension, the skills necessary for self-sustained education. My rates are competitive, and I will meet with one student or several at their home or another location.
